Number 5 East Kansas Street, a brick front on the old side of the Liberty Square. Family run, open seven days, with a full bar and a kitchen that starts the birria in the morning.

Order the quesatacos. They come four to a plate with a cup of consomé beside them, and that cup is the point.

Off the griddle

Birria QuesatacosFour tacos, birria style beef and Monterey cheese, cilantro and onion, a cup of consomé for dipping. Mexican rice and beans.

Tacos de BarbacoaSlow cooked beef, white onion, cilantro, corn tortillas.

Tacos de Carne AsadaChopped grilled steak. The plainest plate here and one of the best.

Rolled and sauced

Trio EnchiladasThree enchiladas, three fillings, three sauces, one plate.

Espinaca EnchiladasSpinach and cheese.

From the coast

Camarones a la DiablaShrimp in red chile sauce. Hot, and meant to be.

Camarones La CostaThe house shrimp plate the restaurant took its name from.

Specials: A separate weekday card runs alongside the main menu. Items and prices to be confirmed with the restaurant.
Happy hour: Monday through Thursday at the bar. Times to be confirmed.
Margaritas: Name the flavor and it gets built that way, on the rocks or frozen.
Also poured: Cocktails, shots, beer, and something for whoever is driving.
